Today is a glorious day and to say out loud that the Avengers is finally here on blu-ray and that The Hobbitt's new trailer is here and is going up at this moment. Just for good occasion, I thought I would include both trailers just to give some good old reminders to everyone one out there. With this being dubbed "Phase One" by Marvel when it comes to the Avengers films, I cant wait for Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Thor: Dark World and the inevitable Avengers 2; all of which should be spectacular. Speaking of Phase Ones,  we should look at Peter Jacksons Phase one of the planned Hobbit trilogy with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. With the trailer now released, we can expect December to be a very exciting and fun month when it comes to great movie releases. Check out the videos below to see what i mean.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the Emoticon. What is an emoticon you ask? Well its something that we all use in our text messages, instant messages, and many other devices just to people how we are feeling. It has become something that makes things easier in our lives to express emotion. Sometimes, individuals will even use these symbols in their own professional writings to give it more (I guess) meaning. So today, we take a moment to thank Scott E. Fahlman of Carnegie Melon University for coming up with the idea and spreading the idea to so many of us. So for all of you who forgot your emoticon emotions, click the link below and see which ones represent you the best.

Music is No Impossible Dream

Okay, for me this has always been one of my favorite songs just because of how motivating it can be when it is heard. I will say this, I am not one to be SELECTIVE, if you will, when it comes to music. I don't make a decision straight away about what I feel is the correct type of music to hear and be motivated by. I look at music from both its foundation (that being the classical) to its modern (that being rap and its other alternatives). Music is music all around us, and we always have to view on how it inspires us; whether that be if we are fishing at a pier, warming up for a sport that we are playing, going to the gym, driving, or just trying to relax after a long stressful day. For me the song that you are about to see is one that I found great inspiration from in many different ways. Its called the Impossible Dream. The song is from the Man of La Mancha, which is based off the book The Adventures of Don Quixote  by Miguel de Cervantes. I remember reading Don Quixote when I was in college to understand literature and use it  towards a research paper as the basis for certain metaphors in magic and the imagination when I had a class aptly titled "Literature of the Occult." I was immediately drawn to the story and when I watched the movie version of the play for a visual understanding, the song just spoke to me. The song is not just looking to the meaning of a knight errant, but it relates to all human beings that are "dreaming the impossible dream." For me it was a dream to overcome the sidesteps in my life such as my height, tragedy, sometimes loneliness, and even trying to find a sense of creativity when it came to my writing. There are so many versions of this song that are truly uplifting, but one that stuck out to me was the version that was sung by Jim Nabors a.k.a Gomer Pyle USMC. Because of the recent death of Andy Griffith, whom Nabors starred alongside with on his sitcom The Andy Griffith Show, and my deep naval and military roots in my family plus with my cousin joining the police force, I only felt it fitting that this version be special for them. It was especially fitting for Gomer since he felt he felt, in episode of the show, he couldn't find the courage to sing it in front of a crowd. So here it is, sung by Mr. Jim Nabors a.k.a. Gomer Pyle, the Impossible Dream!

Bruce G. Blowers and Band Sing for Faith and Blessings

For a new post today, I wanted to put out a plug for a good guy whose musical talent has been both a blessing to children, leadership and most of all a giving of thanks to the Lord that he has known all of his life. Bruce is one heck of a musician who has gone from being a standout oboist, concert musician, and solo artist to a gifted and talent songwriter and formed the Bruce G. Blowers band. While Bruce is Worship Leader and Student Ministries Director at Christ United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, his band and new sound of music have allowed home to continue to grow as a musician and as an individual. I had the privledge of knowing the legacy and talent of Mr. Blowers when I was both in high school and in college at SPC; both places in which the music world was his domain for both learning and creating inspiration for future individuals. Since the release of his debut solo album in 2009, he has continued to write new songs that have come from experiences in his life and from growing love for Lord in his adulthood. So on Saturday night Sept. 22nd at 7 pm at the First Christian Church in Seminole, Bruce and his band will be putting on a free concert. Come out and support. Located below I have a promotional video made by the band and also a listing of Bruces songs that he has written. Take a listen and watch.

An Ode to a Fat Bastard

Forgive me for going back to my old days when this type of comedy just always made me laugh, but tonight I felt the urge to watch a film that, when the first time I saw it, I literally asked myself: IS MIKE MYERS REALLY IN THAT SUIT?  Yes, I am referring to Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. When looking back on it now, I still remember how funny it was the first time I saw it and how much it made me laugh. I nearly cried at the scenes with the one and only: FAT BASTARD. He has forever changed the world and my views on comedy. Still funny to listen to his dialogue no matter how old you are.

A GREAT LINCOLN TO BE SEEN

I am so excited for this film. It has so many great features about it where to start is just astronomically impossible, but i will do the best I can. First, it is about Abraham Lincoln, one of the finest and best presidents this country has ever had that helped a country push through a war that pitted brother against brother, North and South, Confederate against Union. So if you are a Civil War or Lincoln buff, this is definitely a film for you. Second, after the success of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter this past summer, we can continue to see how much of a bad-ass this president was, NOW from the more correct historical point of view. Third, its Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln! One of the best actors of our generation to play one of the best presidents of all time, who could not ask for anything more, plus for any actor it is the role of a lifetime. Thats when we move into the director, MR. STEVEN SPIELBERG!! With an all star cast from oscar winners Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones, to season greats such as Jackie Earl Halley, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and many more, this a film not just to watch for the Oscars come 2013, but as a great film to see during the Thanksgiving season; when we are looking for a time of hope and uplifting given the issues that are going on in the world at the moment and the people that we have lost, that brought so much peace and good will to this country and many others around the world. So below i have included the first FULL LENGTH Trailer to the film plus take a look a the photo of a comparison of Lincoln and Day-Lewis. The likeness and the make-up is absolutely AMAZING.

I went old school and watched a movie tonight that was...well...lets face it a classic already in my book: The Incredibles. There are some many great points in this movie, but only one is so quotable and so memorable, that we can never forget what the scene is or....let alone who does the role so perfectly. I am of course talking about Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone asking his wife the age old question....WHERE IS MY SUPER SUIT!!!!!
