![]() Sorry I havent been able to keep this post consistent, been busy with work and also making many changes to this site. But here's something I realized the other day, Halloween music would pointless to not have this theme in it; and it's one we have all heard and scene from one particular movie. Its none other than Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky. Its one of those songs that even when we hear it, we just know what goes through our mind: A mountain inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night with a little town that gets haunted by ghosts and demons. Oh, did I forget to mention that a big guy with horns (maybe the devil) sits on the mountain and has them dance and do paganistic rituals. This song truly represents this time of year. Of course following this song, is none other than a superb version of Ave Maria. One known fact about the scenes in this movie is that if you look closely, you can see certain images that we inspired by impressionist Salvador Dali. In fact, Dali and Walt Disney were such good friends, they originally wanted to do a "Fantasia" short for a future Fantasia installment. The idea was later put to realization with the recently completed Destino, showcasing many of Dali's well known caricatures along with a moving song. So here at the bottom, for your viewing pleasure, is Night On Bald Mountain from the Disney film Fantasia, released in 1941. Enjoy. All the Best, B.K.R

![]() Unfortunately since there wont be a published article in the Clearwater Beacon this week, I thought I would start posting my unpublished work here on my blog. This can me a motivation to get things done faster and with greater organization. For one of my first pieces, it will be sports related. As this is the next for this school and sports program, I will consider this my next step with both my website and journalism. Within this post I have photos that would have been published this week in a newspaper. Check them out and comment. For privacy reasons, certain faces have been blurred. I must respect the wishes of the individuals who asked for this to be done. Please do the same. Comment back. ![]() Now to the film many people consider one of the scariest films ever made. It is none other than "The Exorcist." What makes the movie great is it's idea: possession by the devil. Pretty scary stuff if you ask me. What also makes it great is its technical advancements in make up and trick photography. The make up surrounding the young girls face, played by Linda Blair, is so shocking and revolting its just down right ingenious. And one of the great known facts of the film is its special effects from the infamous pea soup to them turning the bedroom, where the girl was exorcised, into a walk-in refrigerator just to get the effect of cold breath (Do remember this was long before the days of computer graphics). But what many of us remember as well is a taxi cab pulling up, a man getting out of the car and hearing the main theme, which to this day gives me chills. Lets face it, the man was walking into hell and he knew it. The movies main theme comes from another well known piece of music already composed and well known. Its title is Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield. Take a listen and see if it rings a bell. Besides having certain scenes that are scary, it has had its great moments to be parodied quite well. In the 2001 parody film Scary Movie 2, some of its well known scenes get quite a few laughs and with Andy Richter and JAMES WOODS as priests, it cant much funnier than that. Take a watch and laugh. ![]() In continuation with the honoring of great horror movie music, I stumbled upon not just a great movie, but its great movie theme that every time we hear it we think of one thing....MICHAEL MYERS lol and no not the actor. The one in the William Shatner mask trying to kill Jamie Lee Curtis from the classic 1978 film HALLOWEEN. In fact this was the movie first referenced the title of the holiday in a horror film. Before this film came out, halloween was considered a fun holiday where kids dressed up, went trick or treating and eventually carved pumpkins using big kitchen knives. Well, Carpenter got it right with kids dressing up in a costume and using a big kitchen knife. But what made the movie great was definately the movie theme that resonated throughout the entire plot from beginning to end. And believe it or not the man who wrote the song was....you guessed it the director himself John Carpenter. An accomplished pianist, Carpenter wrote the theme to Halloween and to this day still holds the copyrights to the song. Now thats what I call dedication to both a film and knowing good business sense. Here is the theme, take a listen and get a few chills lol And here is the trailer to the original film from the original 1978 film ![]() Holding off on the music portion of my blog for this month and occasion of Halloween, I had to put something on here that is big news to lets face it all of us Marvel fans out there. We all couldn't get enough of the Avengers this summer when it came out May 5, 2012. Now the next great Marvel movie is already here and we all are going to now start talking about it...just by seeing the trailer....and recognizing the villan. Its none other than Iron Man 3 and my first thought when I saw the trailer was just absolute awe. The story, the special effects and of course the villan. Its none other than the Mandarin, Iron Mans Ultimate Arch Nemesis. It will be great to see how he will be fit into this new story, considering now that the supernatural side of the Avengers and Iron Man will now play a key role in future projects.....and also how it will play into the Avengers 2. So for all your viewing pleasure, here it is...THE FIRST TRAILER...to IRON MAN 3 to be released on MAY 3, 2013!!!! All the Best: B.K.R. ![]() In lew of Halloween, I want to include not just great music that scares us but also the movies that continue to become a tradition to watch during this time of year that literally scare the crap out of us. For something of a treat, I happened to stumble across a few things with this one film that I happened to find very interesting and at time very disturbing. The film is none other than the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the grand daddy slasher film that was released in 1974. It was a true horror masterpiece which will, believe it or not, get a sequel (not a remake or prequel) in 2013. But what is amazing about this film how much it has affected our culture and the horror movie genre over the years. It continues to be the quintisential film watched during these spooky times of the year, its back story of development and also its true changes to changes to conventional horror which were paved by George A. Romero and John Carpenter. The success of the film paved the way for some sequels, one starting Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger. There is so much I could tell about what makes this film special, but I will leave some videos for you all to watch to get the backstory. I will also have one here at the bottom of the post about the filming location and where and how it is used today. You might just find it odd and interesting. All the Best, B.K.R. Here is a behind the scenes look of the movie made by the E! Entertainment channel. The Original 1974 Trailer to the ORIGINAL TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE The trailer to the 2003 Remake, which gave it a more "based on a true story story" kind of look. And finally the actual trailer to be released some time in 2013 as a DIRECT sequel to the original film. And here is something some of you probably didn't probably know. For all you film buffs out there who like to visit places where films were made, check out what was done with the ACTUAL Leatherface house where the film was actually shot. Its call Junction House restaurant AND YES ITS STILL IN TEXAS. Remember this is the house from the 1974 film, not the 2003 remake. Ive even included a map on how to find it if you are brave enough to visit...and have a meal.
![]() Ever since Seminole High School had a streaker during its homecoming football game, the video taken has become so viral on youtube that it has become a hit and has received over 1 million views. It has become so popular that I had heard that sports channels and even yes late night talk shows have been promoting the video. So my quest started to find these videos and post them just to have a good laugh and also to see how they were being used in jokes. Well recently I was watching Jay Leno and it was used in one of his comedy sketches. Since I have seen it now, i would like to find one that was featured on Jimmy Kimmel. If anyone has seen the video or knows where to find it, please send it my way and I will post it on here. In this post I will include the video taken at the Seminole Homecoming football game and also, at this moment in time, the segment featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. All the Best B.K.R. Here is the video of the Seminole Streaker shot by Chuck Boyd during the Seminole High School Homecoming Football game in Seminole, FL. I, BRAD RICHARDSON, OWN NOTHING. All copyright of the video goes to Chuck Boyd. Video shot and is copyrighted by Chuck Boyd Owner of Rehl Video Productions in Pinellas Park, Florida. He can be reached at chuck@rehlvideo.com. And here is the clip that was featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. All rights to this video are owned by the Tonight Show with Jay Leno through NBC Studios in Los Angles. All footage of streaker is shot by Chuck Boyd and all copyright information is under his ownership. This video was recorded by me and put here on Youtube for entertainment purposes, not meant for distribution. I OWN NOTHING. As this post does continue I would like to show something that I found on CNN. She is a well respected reporter that often does stories for showbiz tonight or other celebrity/entertainment news. Her name is Jeanee Moos and she was given the task of promoting the streaker on CNN, a news station that I have a great amount of respect for and one day hopefully i will get to work for and write stories for. So I know it isnt the Kimmel segment that I am still looking for, but it is still pretty good. SO SEMINOLE HIGH SCHOOL IN SEMINOLE FL ON CNN, PRETTY DAMN GOOD IF YOU ASK ME. Here it is featured on CBS THIS MORNING And here is the local news station that continues to deny me a job, YES DENY ME ONE. Anyway here is I GUESS, HARD HITTING NEWS FROM LAST TIME I CHECKED CONTINUES TO BE RANKED LAST AMOUND BAY NEWS 9, NEWS CHANNEL 8, ABC ACTION NEWS, FOX 13. ENJOY. ![]() For music of halloween day two, I decided to go with a more contemporary music score that is just as famous as the movie and stage productions they are featured with the same name. The piece of music is called Tocata and Fugue in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. This song has been used in many movies including Fantasia, but when you hear the music the only thing that comes to mind is....YES...a hooded figure in a Paris Opera house attacking spectators. These many movies are based on Gaston Leroux's novel Le Fantome de l'Opera, or simply translated "The Phantom of the Opera" One interesting fact is that the song is not in one of the most famous versons staring screen legend Lon Cheney released in 1925. Although the film features some revolutionary advances in movie making for the silent era including a few ball room scenes filmed entirely in color and some uses of early dialogue and sound effects (dubbed into the film in 1928), it does not contain the famous Bach piece of music. It was not used until the 1943 version staring Claude Rains as the Phantom. From then on when it has been played, particularly on a pipe organ, it has been the become one of the most terrifying songs that gives you goosebumps just by listening to it; and makes you want to look around a corner just to make sure someone is not going to hurt you. One of the most famous scenes I should point out from the original 1925 film features a unmasking scene of Lon Cheney. It is considered one of the most frightening moments in movie horror history. According to legend, women would pass out in their theatre chairs at the pure sight of his face disfigurement. Below I have not just the Bach theme but also famous moments of the Phantom's throughout movie and stage history. Enjoy! All The Best B.K.R. The Johan Sebastian Bach theme, commonly referred to as the Phantom of the Opera Theme, take sometime and listen: The Phantom of the Opera Unmasking scene would become most famous in the 1925 version of Gaston Leroux's most famous novel. It would frighten many people around the world during the silent film area for many eras to come. And of Course in the modern era, we remember the Phantom for another reason. For all the broadway fans out there, I of course decided to include the Phantom in his other famous theme, from one of the longest running musicals of all time by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Here is the main theme from the musical movie adaption of Phantom of the Opera. I have included both versions of its well known theme orchesteral and one with the lyrics.
![]() Since Halloween is right around the corner and its that perfect time of year for costumes and scary movies, lets not forget some of the most famous Halloween music that has become well known even when we hear it on the radio and in movies. Each week I will release a song/music that I feel makes this time of year very motivating and worth watching. This week I am going to a song that is famous not just for its music and the artist, but also its music video. John Landis, who directed An American Werewolf in London, wasn't just a huge influence when it came to telling a great horror story, he also directed and made this song and music video remembered forever and parodied throughout the world. The song and music video is none other than THRILLER by Michael Jackson. It has been a music video that, when i was younger, captivated me with the chilling voice over by none other than Vincent Price and the unique way to tell a horror story and at the same time make a great music video. But don't let me spoil the video for you, check it out and think of a memory you might have had when you were younger. Also in this post, there are videos I have included that have parodied the great music and video dancing. All the Best B.K.R. MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLERAnd Im not the only one that thinks this song and music video is awesome, check out what 1500 inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation think of Michael Jackson and Thriller in general: And even during the Super Bowl, Naomi Campbell couldn't help but dance it up with a few geckos or lizards for one of their legendary commercials: ![]() Big news that i just heard about today. It has been reported that Seth MacFarlane, the genius that created Family Guy, American Dad, the Cleveland show and of course everyones favorite new talking teddy bear Ted, will be hosting this years 85th annual Academy Awards. After hosting Saturday Night Live on September 15th and totally rocking it out, it is obvious to see that Seth can handle himself and he definitely has no problem poking fun at celebrities and being controversial on certain topics. It will definitely be a ceremony that will be one to watch. MacFarlane is no stranger to being a host and also mixing up awards ceremonies. ALL THE BEST, B.K.R SETH MACFARLANE AS THE ROAST MASTER FOR DONALD TRUMP DURING HIS ROAST. (He rocked it and even made "The Situation" feel like shit even more when he totally bombed on stage). MACFARLANE AS THE ROAST MASTER AGAIN-THIS TIME FOR CHARLIE SHEEN AND FOR AN AWARDS SHOW-MACFARLANE DEMONSTRATES HOW HE CAN MAKE AN AUDIENCE LAUGH THEIR BUTTS OFF BY COMBINING HIS VOICE TALENTS FOR BOTH STEWIE AND BRIAN GRIFFIN AND MAKING FUN OF THE FELLOW NOMINEES AT THE EMMYS IN 2007. |
