HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, For the next few posts, the drum majors of the Seminole High school Warhawk band, Sarah Michaels and Matt Durst will be keeping me posted on what they are doing everyday when they are out in California. This is Day FIVE. Enjoy what they have to say!!! By the Way, I will be trying to get pictures up as quickly as I can so everyone can see what the band is experiencing when they are out in Cali. I have a designated photographer that is helping me at the moment and I thank her for her help. Hopefully we will have video to show you as well.

Itinerary

Today was a special day for the band they woke up promptly at 6:30 AM and enjoy breakfast as always. The drum majors and staff were treated to something a little bit differently. Today was the directors breakfast. They left the hotel really early to get to the langham (formly the Ritz Carlton) where we were treated like royalty. We took pictures with the rose princesses and queen and the bixbys, took pictures with the bowl etc. met with multiple drum majors... most notably lassiter and broken arrow and took multiple pictures. breakfast was delicious and the sounds and introductions were just wow and amazing. Then they hopped on the bus at 9 am and traveled to Universal Studios Hollywood were every Hollywood movies made legendary. This is the studio where you come face-to-face with King Kong 360 3-D. They soon returned to the hotel and were treated to a special party that was in the in the hotel ballroom given to them by the hotel. The band celebrated the New Year at 9 PM. On the East Coast, Florida, it is already midnight.  the East Coast in Florida and  the West Coast celebrated together at one simultaneous time. Tomorrow is the big day for the band their official march in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade for the second time it Seminole High School's history. They will be the 87th unit and the 23rd band to perform and make a live television appearance in the parade. Their performances will be seen on both HDTV, NBC and the Hallmark Channel. The parade starts at 11 AM Eastern standard time and will end sometime around 1 PM. Good luck to the Seminole band. And by the way right now we wish them all the best of good health. Currently 20 members of the band are sick with stomach flu. Please give them your prayers and thoughts as they will be trying to recover quickly and find the strength to be able to march 5 1/2 miles tomorrow morning it will be cold and they will need all the support from Florida they can get. In lieu of everything now I give Seminole two last phrases that they know best before the March. One the tradition of excellence continues show us alumni what you can do we performed this parade now you have to do it and we know that you can and WILL do it well. And the last and certainly not least: SEMINOLE JUST DO IT!!!!!!!

From Sarah and Matt:

SARAH MICHAELS
Happy New Year's Eve. Hope everything is well. Today we went to Universal Studios. At this moment, 20 kids in the band have the Stomach Flu. The ones that are sick arent allowed to attend the New Years Party that the hotel has put on for the band. They, unfortunately, are isolated in designated rooms so most are staying in bed. Right now we are looking at only 90+ healthy musicians and guard that can march in the parade tomorrow.

Itinerary

Today was a day of both memories and for some members of alumni, it was a little bit of déjà vu. The band was promptly woken at 5:30 AM to enjoy breakfast before then departing to Pasadena City College to prepare for performance that would forever change the lives of the students in the band this year. At 10:10 AM Pacific Standard Time, the Seminole High School Warhawk Marching band went before a packed audience performing their 2012 field show "On Edge" and the many pieces that they will be playing in the 2013 Pasadena tournament of roses Parade on January 1. These pieces include Disney's "Fantasmic", "Its a Small World" and “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah”. They received a loud and thunderous applause as they both played their field show with movements and choreography and marched around the track. Upon finishing they all had one of the best things that California has to offer that is not even in Florida; Im talking about In and Out Burger.  After eating a delicious and AMAZING burger they went to the Rose Bowl Stadium, where they would get their official photo taken for the 2013 parade as one of the 24 bands that will be participating. They soon left to go see the floats and saw how they are made  using all natural earth products to bring some the many colors to life on the new floats. After the touring, they soon went dinner at Universal City walk the before departing back the hotel for the night. For tomorrow would be the final day of fun before the biggest day on national television that they will experience: The 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade. They will celebrate New Year's tomorrow at 9 PM, when it will be midnight on the East Coast here in FL. They will be celebrating New Year's at the same time in with us here. Have a good night guys!!!!!

From Sarah and Matt

SARAH MICHAELS:
So yesterday we got up at 5:30 to get ready for Bandfest. Half dress of course. We got on the bus by 6:45 to head out to Pasadena City College. It was so cold, we were running into the sun for warmth. We went to our warm up sight and along the way passed the BOA Honor Band. They were massive.
At our warm up sight people were lined up to go into the stadium. At first or was a small crowd then it quickly grew. They were all watching us practice. It was very exciting. Once warm up was over we went to line up to prepare to take the field. We waited a good amount of time until we could start heading out onto the field because Pasadena City College Band opened up Bandfest for the day. After then was the BOA Honor Band and then we were on. The crowd was much larger than I expected it to be. They were cheering us on as the announcer gave out facts about the band. They mentioned fundraisers we have done, as well as special things some members of the band participate in or awards or special recognitions they have gotten. It was really exciting and interesting to see what all we have accomplished. Matt started the show and the crowd went wild as the show got more exciting. The show ended with the crowd still cheering. The performance was probably my favorite because it was stress free and fun.
After we did out parade around the track we went and got into half dress to go eat some In-n-Out Burger for lunch. It was so good. Then we got changed into regular clothes to go to City Walk. We shipped around a bit then went to eat at Buca Di Peppo's. That was some good Italian food. We ended the day early to get some sleep and we were back at the hotel by 8. We had to unload the busses and went to our rooms. It was a pretty relaxed day.

Dec. 31 2:51 pm EST

MATT DURST:

Very short turn around time from last night to this morning we woke up at 5:30am and loaded the buses around 7 and are enroute to bandfest to perform our field show and our parade routine. afterwards we are taking a picture outside of the rosebowl and getting a chance to view the assembly of the floats!
Dec. 30 10:11 AM EST

very solid performance today from warhawk band at band fest. the crowd loved us! after a few in and out burgers we are loaded up on the bus. it is starting to rain here but we are on our way to the rose bowl to get our picture done and to view the floats

ITINERARY

The band woke up at 6:30 AM before making their way towards a usual Seminole breakfast (hopefully it was buffet and not bagged lol). Today was one of their practice days. In order to get the turn just right for when they make their entrance onto Colorado Blvd, they decided to practice in a parking garage. Since the turn is 110 degrees, the tight turns in the garage makes the practice even more perfect. They soon made their way over to Maranatha High School. There, they were able to practice their field show "Off Edge", as well as practice the parade music that everyone will get to see and hear on New Year's Day. From there, the band toured Hollywood, Cali and took in all the sights and sounds in Beverly Hills, famous movie studios, and saw the famous Hollywood sign. After many hours of touring Hollywood Boulevard, the band made its way over to the legendary Queen Mary, which is both a Ship, hotel and restuarant. There, the band was accustomed to a dinner cruise, which the previous band in 2005 also received after they performed in the Rose Bowl parade that day. That night, they would be treated to a special and spooky exhibit. They would get an exclusive ghost tour that goes into the hulls, decks and rooms of the Queen Mary, that supposedly haunted by many ghosts of the residents that traveled on the high seas when stayed on the legendary ship. From there they departed back to the hotel where they would settle in for the night. Tomorrow the band would be in for a whole new adventure, but this time they would make themselves known for the first time to the Rose Bowl public, FOR A SECOND TIME. TOMORROW IS BANDFEST!!!

FROM SARAH AND MATT

SARAH MICHAELS
We woke up today at 6:30 this morning to get ready and have some breakfast. By 8 we were on our bus on our way to practice. It was at a high school, (and don't quote me on this, I don't really remember what the school was called, I have to look at the itinerary) but if I'm right it's called Marantha high school. We had practice until 12 then had some lunch and got changed for the rest of the day.
We got back on the bus and got to see some of the parade route like Colorado blvd. and where some of the stands are. From there we went to Hollywood. The mountains along the way to the high and L.A. we're beautiful. Then we got into the city. It was so cool to see where Capitol records is and all the little historical monuments L.A. has. We went on a walking tour where we got to see the Egyptian and Chinese theater, as well as where the Oscars are held. We also got to see the walk of fame and where the stars put down their hand prints. Then we went on a bus your throughout Hollywood where we got to see all the little interesting historical places and Beverly Hills.
After, we went on a tour of Queen Mary.  Then ended our tour with our day with a dinner cruise. It was a nice day.
Dec. 30th  1:27 AM EST

MATT DURST
Well we just finished practice at maranatha high school it was raining the entire time so we were inside a parking garage. touring the parade route atm and will later on be doing a hollywood tour.

We practiced in a parking garage this morning. we did not do practicing for the turn just practiced band fest and parade routine and commands.
Dec. 29th 3:27 PM

Tonights agenda included a tour of the historic ship the queen mary which was very spooky in a weird kinda way. then after the tour we traveled on a dinner cruise out on the entertainer where we ate a delicious dinner and danced the night away on the ship, at the moment we are traveling back to the hotel for the night as we attempt to get sleep for tomorrows band fest

we are also taking extra precautions with being sanitary as some have been feeling a little under the weather as well. we are all having a wonderful time so far, tired but it is certainly worth all of the sleepiness.

SARAH MICHAELS

Hope everything is going well in Florida. Yesterday was awesome and very long. We spent the whole morning traveling so we are still a little jet lagged. We got to go to Santa Monica pier and have lunch. I went down with Tyler Eddinger to the beach and got to put our feet in the water for a bit. It was so cold, but so worth it. After that we went to the Grammy museum, my favorite so far, and got to see all the legends as well as mixing music and songwriting. It was pretty great. After, we went the hotel and unloaded the truck and got settled in our rooms then we went and had dinner at Dave and Busters.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTENĀ

I have not been writing for a few days now, particularly  because I am still at a loss for words. I am at a loss for what has happened to this country yet again; when it came to someone and a gun. I will NOT post my views on THIS blog pertaining to either gun control or my views on the second amendment because personally this is NOT what I WOULD LIKE TO TALK ABOUT RIGHT NOW WITH THIS RECENT EVENT . Many of us as Americans forget to look at the bottom line of what has just happened. 26 individuals are gone. 2o of which are children. Lives that were cut short, dreams that will never happen, and futures along with fates that were determined in a matter of a second; by a man with a gun. There are millions of questions to ask, some of which will probably never be fully answered. But what we do now is the same thing that we continue to do when a tragedy of this scale has happened. WE HELP. WE HELP HEAL THEM MOST OF ALL, WE HEAL EACH OTHER AND WE FIND WAYS TO KEEP GOING.  And we always offer our prayers and thoughts to those families that are suffering through this horrific time....who will never be the same again. This event happened during the holiday season as well...they will find it EXTREMELY difficult to sing christmas carols, open presents, light a menorah...or in general....enjoy the time they spend with family discussing the good events that are happening at this point in their lives. But lets face it, at this point with those families, there are no happy times currently...and they will be hard to find for a very long time. A part of their hearts has now been ripped from their chests and that pain will never go away. It is an impending silence that parents must endure when they walk into the house. Its a sole, lonely and empty room that won't be cleaned for years. It is all this sadness that has now been created because of someone that lost their consciousness for some reason and decided to enact such terror. For all of you that know me and my family, we understand the feelings of loss and grief that these families are going through, and we are forever sympathetic and grief stricken to all the mothers, fathers, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles that forever have lost a family member. I have updated and started created other postings that will be going up today to catch up on what does I have lost. Here on this post, I will be posting some interesting findings that be an interesting read to all of you. 12 days of christmas will continue today and the days to come.

12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS-DAY 1

Well Christmas is only in 12 days and the one song that comes to mind is of course the 12 Days of Christmas. Its a song we have sung in school holiday productions and no matter how many times you hear it , it never gets old. The funny part is everyone seems to get the certain actions on certain days mixed up, so for a listing of the correct actions to do on the CORRECT DAYS, click the photo before. I should also point out that this the 5th Day of Hanukkah ((pronounced hah-nə-kə ;Hebrew: חֲנֻכָּה, Tiberian: Ḥănukkāh, usually spelled חנוכה, pronounced [χanuˈka] in Modern Hebrew; a transliteration also romanized as Chanukah, Chanukkah or Chanuka), also known as the Festival of Lights.), courtesy of Wikipedia. I will be posting new stuff daily, check my blog out to see more that I have to say, who knows I just might find something commical, maybe another idiot valeting outside a liquor store.

A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE

Picture
Also to kick off this 12 Days of Christmas, I thought that I would list some of my all time favorite holiday songs each day. For my first song, it follows a movie that has become now a holiday tradition much like 24 hours of Christmas Story. It is none other  than the opening theme song from the holiday classic National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The song is a conventional holiday tune sung by Mavis Staple. But with all the comical animation in the background, it just makes the song even better to listen too. Its almost like watching a piece of satire with a general lyrical line shown with christmas being depicted as a pain in the ass, especially for Santa when he visits none other than the GRISWOLD house.
And recently ALL the Griswolds and children have become popular again, just see how from these OLD NAVY COMMERCIALS THAT HAVE BEEN SHOWN RECENTLY. Mostly all the original Griswold kids have made a return to the roles as Rusty and Audrey along with the original Ellen and Clark played always by Beverly D'Angleo and Chevy Chase.

AN ACT THAT WOULD HAVE GONE A LITTLE TOO FAR

OK, I can admit, we, all guys, out there cant stand Justin Bieber's music. I mean let's face it we are over him, but we are not over him that much where we would want to pull an act like this. These two guys took it WAYYYYYY TOO FAR. NOT EVEN I WOULD WISH THIS ON SOMEONE...NOT EVEN MY WORST ENEMIES. Always take into consideration your actions. I applaud the man that turned these guys in. There have been way too many shootings in this country now and to sit there and continue them would just be too much. So read this cause this is real, it was going to happen, and thank GOD there are good people in this world to prevent sickos from doing this not just to a celebrity, but a person.

Gruesome Justin Bieber Murder Plot Uncovered by Police
(Report)2:46 PM PST 12/12/2012 by Seth Abramovitch

The pop sensation was ordered castrated and killed by an obsessed fan serving two life sentences in a New Mexico prison.

Two would-be hit men from Albuquerque, N.M. --Mark Staake and his nephew Tanner Ruane -- had plans to stalk and kill the singer while he visited New York for a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden, police say.

According to police, Staake had befriended a third man, Dana Martin, while both were incarcerated in Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility in Las Cruces. Martin, who is serving two life sentences for the 2000 murder and rape of a 15-year-old girl in Vermont, recruited Staake to execute a series of killings on his behalf after Staake was released.

Among them, Martin ordered "the murder and castration of Bieber and his bodyguard," Albuquerque's KRQE reports. Martin allegedly is obsessed with the Canadian pop star and even has a tattoo of Bieber on his leg.

Tipped by Martin himself, police recorded several phone conversations between Staake and Ruane that took place after Staake had been arrested in Vermont on outstanding warrants.

In them, Ruane complained of being disappointed at not being able to carry out the murders. He later was arrested by police in New York, who found weapons and pruning sheers on him.

Here they are, some pictures from the 40th Annual Pinellas Park Holiday Parade put on by the city of Pinellas Park on Saturday December 8th. The Seminole Warhawk Band, along with high schools from around the area marched down Park Blvd. officially bringing in the holiday season. The event also featured floats, trucks and many more sponsored by local organizations around the area. More than 12,000 people were in attendance to watch the event. Here are picture from the band while marching along the route. Some of the photos are dark and I apologize for the quality its hard to get an angle shot plus when there is very little light its tough to get the whole scope. ENJOY.
