LARGO – Indian Rocks Christian lost at home to Hialeah Champagnat Catholic 28-14 in the Class 2A Regional semifinals Nov. 29.
The Golden Eagles ended their winning season as the Class 2A District 5 champions with a record of 10-4. This is the first time the school has advanced to the state semifinals.
Junior Damian King ran for 80 yards and scored the Eagles’ first touchdown in the second quarter. Champagnat Lions led 8-7 at the half.
Sophomore Theo Anderson caught a 39-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough, as the Lions put up 20 points in the final quarter to secure the win.
Champagnat Catholic will face off against the Victory Christian Academy in Lakeland on Friday, Dec. 6 for the Class 2A state final game.Article published on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.
