IMG ASENDERS: 0
After a crushing defeat against the Osceola Warriors during a preseason tournament at Berkeley Preperatory in the Diamond Classic, the Seminole Warhawks were determined to make a comeback for a win, especially in front of a home crowd in true form. This would be in the form of a opening season game against the IMG Academy Asenders from Tampa. The two teams top pitchers, Warhawks Senior Alex McGathey and IMG Sam Proctor faced off to see which arm could hold out seven innings. In the first inning the Warhawks took a 2-o lead as McGathey and Corey Baptist drove runs in, giving them a nice start and advantage over the Ascenders. By the 7th inning, Seminole was able to close out the game with McGathey having pitched his first shutout game of the season. Standout pitchers tonight were Damian Lovett, Tylor Craft and Stephen Nobles. Other standout players tonight included USF signee and catcher Michael Mann and catcher Douglas Borgh. According to Head Coach Jeff Pincus, even though this is the start of the great season so far, they will face the challenge of being on the road when they will face off against Venice High School in Sarasota County on Friday Feb. 15th.
REMARKS FROM THE COACH:
"It feels great for a first win and I knew these guys had it in them. They are a loose groups of kids and I have asked the senior leadership to come through, and tonight they have shown so far and this has allowed them to have fun."
Against VENICE HS: "They are a very good team, they are defending state champs after all."
Sorry wasnt able to do any photos tonight; because of announcer responsibilities and fog issues, more to happen next time. Also, catch up on the Seminole Baseball team in this weeks issue of the Seminole Beacon. You will find the article on page 18A of the Seminole and Beach Beacon.
